Salif Diarra is a composer, multi-instrumentist, and singer from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso. Salif is from a “griot” family of the Bobo ethnia and has been performing internationally with musicians such as Victor Demé and Yapa et la roulette russe. Salif started to play music at a young age along with his brothers, Ali and Samba and also learned to make instruments. In a few years, Salif went from playing in the streets of Abidjan to survive to touring with the great and now deceased Victor Demé.
How we met:
We met Salif Diarra and his band in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso as we were working on a new Song Around The World for the winter Olympics in South Korea. The PFC crew went to a restaurant one evening and Salif and his band were playing on stage. We knew right away that we could not leave the country without recording him and his band and building a friendship to create more music together in the future.
