Artist Spotlight: Dani Lança and the Story Behind “Acontecer”
Some artists carry many worlds in their voice. Dani Lança is one of them.

A singer, songwriter, guitarist, and global performer, Dani creates music across languages and borders, performing original songs in Spanish, Portuguese, English, and French. His sound blends the spirit of Rumba Portuñol with Afro, Latin, and Reggae rhythms, creating music that feels both deeply personal and universally human.
Known for his emotion, warmth, and charisma, Dani’s songs often explore themes of love, consciousness, freedom of expression, and the courage to be oneself. At the heart of his music is a belief in connection: between people, cultures, languages, and the Earth we all share.
Over the years, Dani has performed across Europe, the Americas, Asia, and Africa, bringing his guitar and voice to audiences around the world. He has shared stages and festival lineups with celebrated international artists including Alpha Blondy, Sting, Manu Chao, Anitta, Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Carlinhos Brown, Jorge Drexler, Playing For Change, Milton Nascimento, Bomba Estéreo, Maná, Aterciopelados, Carlos Vives, Flavia Coelho, Scorpions, Lisa Simone, Café Tacvba, Kiko Veneno, Raimundo Amador, Elza Soares, and many others.
Dani’s connection with Manu Chao began not in a studio or on a stage, but on the streets of Barcelona — in the kind of spontaneous encounter that often becomes part of a larger musical journey.
As Dani remembers:
“I met Manu on the streets of Barcelona around 2006. I was having coffee in Plaza del Tripi when I approached him to say hello and congratulate him on his album Clandestino. The fact that we both spoke Portuguese helped us connect right away.
It was a brief encounter, but because we both lived in Barcelona, we crossed paths again. Around 2010, our relationship became more constant when we started playing football with a group of musician friends from Barcelona three times a week. After the matches, we would gather at Bar Iris and make music together.
Around 2017, we began writing ‘Acontecer,’ inspired by the same human values we shared: the well-being and preservation of the planet, its balance, the importance of caring for it, and the need to love and respect the Earth and its people.”
What began as a simple encounter grew into friendship, collaboration, and eventually a song rooted in shared purpose. “Acontecer” carries a message of care for the planet, respect for all people, and hope for a more conscious and united world.
Now, Dani Lança joins Playing For Change, Manu Chao, Alexandre Carlo, and musicians from around the world for a new Song Around The World version of “Acontecer.” Rooted in friendship, shared values, and a deep love for the planet and its people, this global collaboration carries the song’s message across borders and cultures.

“Acontecer” premieres June 19
