Terry Wilson Portrait

Terry Wilson

Deer Park, United States

Terry Wilson was born in Warren, Arkansas, but was raised in Deer Park, Texas, where his family relocated when he was four. His interest in music began at an early age and by the time he reached fifteen he began his professional career in music by playing local talent shows and school dances in and around the Deer Park, Pasadena, and Houston areas of Texas. It was after high school and two years of college when Terry decided he wanted to pursue a career in music full-time.

In 1972 he moved to New York to record with The Bloontz All Star Blues Band on Evolution Records who later joined Epic Records artist Johnny Nash, to form the Afro-Texan band, The Sons of the Jungle. The band was featured on Johnny’s “Celebrate Life” and toured the states and the Caribbean.

After two years in New York, Terry moved to London, England to work as a house bass player for Island Records. It was in London where he was exposed to many new styles of music that have influenced his style of playing including African Hi-life and Jamaican Blue Beat Ska. While working in the studios there he met ex-Free guitarist Paul Kossoff and the band Backstreet Crawler was formed. After two albums on Atlantic Records (it was during the second album that Paul died) the band shortened the name to Crawler and recorded two albums with CBS Records.

Terry returned to the states after spending five years in London and settled in Los Angeles where he has worked with many artists, most notably: Teresa James (his wife), Stephen Bruton, Little Whisper & the Rumor, Mojo Monkeys, and Eric Burdon, both recording and touring. He currently spends his time focusing on songwriting, working in his home studio, and producing and touring with Eric Burdon & the Animals and Teresa James & the Rhythm Tramps—who will be releasing their 10th studio album in the spring of 2018.
